A Little Help, a lot of Success!

Written by: Donovan van Eetveldt

I was referred to Wesley House by Triton underground Scholars at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), a student organization that helps formerly incarcerated students succeed and graduate.

Robert helped me navigate all the paperwork and everything I needed to meet the requirements for rental assistance. He drove up to UCSD to meet with me, and his patio presentation on generating side income helped both my girlfriend and me find small additional ways to earn. He was always available by email or phone, and always kind and good-spirited.

If it weren't for Wesley House and Robert's help, I would have been unable to pay my spring balance at UCSD, which would have blocked me from enrolling in the summer quarter. That summer enrollment is what made it possible for me to join a Summer Research Program and graduate.

What's next for me: I'm job-hunting for research roles and applying to a PhD program at UCSD in the coming months.
