Written by: Robert Becerra, Housing Navigator Summer has been a time of transition for the Housing Navigation program at Wesley House, as is to be expected. One of our housing navigation clients, Dynastey, got housed at Wesley House after working with us for half a year! She has the following to say about her experience with our program: “Thank you to everyone at Wesley House! I am so grateful for the team as well as my new apartment and roommate. Everyone was so helpful and ensured all my needs were met! I am so grateful for Robert, especially for always keeping me on track and finding ways to help me. He helped me a lot from moving from transitional housing to student housing, which was not an easy process. He maintained consistent communication and stayed on top of everything throughout the process!” We are so proud of the work Dynastey did as she navigated employment to secure income for housing. Are you a student facing housing insecurity? You, too, can have success like Dynastey. Reach out by emailing [email protected] In other news, we have said goodbye to Jeff, our now former Volunteer Housing Navigation Assistant. He provided exceptional administrative, outreach, and event planning support. We wish him the best on his new employment journey. He has the following parting words: “Working with Robert Becerra and the team at Wesley house has been a great help in gaining experience. The team is a pleasure to work with, and it's been wonderful to get to know the workings of their organization, including how they help transition-age students and provide needed resources like food and rental assistance. There's a wide array of ways to help, and in whichever way you contribute, Wesley House is a wonderful place at which to volunteer. You’ll enjoy helping the staff who are dedicated to seeing students through to graduation.”

Written by: Maria Khalifa, CalFresh Outreach Coordinator Getting accepted into college or your dream school is something to celebrate! 🎉 But why is no one talking about how scary and overwhelming it is even getting started? I mean, everything will be new; new classmates, new professors, new bills to pay, new expectations and for many students, a new city far away from home. While everyone celebrates the acceptance letter, many students quietly wonder where their next meal will come from. If that is you, you are not alone. In case no one has told you, there is no shame in using resources and a community that are available to help you succeed. If you're a college student earning less than $2,610 per month, you may qualify for CalFresh and receive up to $298 per month for groceries. That is an additional $298 dollars for milk, vegetables, and fruit – food that will nourish and fuel your body to do your best while in college! While you're in your college era, this is the time to chase your dreams, pursue your goals, and build your future without having to choose between paying bills or buying food.
