Know your resources: CalFresh Food Assistance

Written by: Maria Khalifa, CalFresh Outreach Coordinator

Getting accepted into college or your dream school is something to celebrate! 🎉 But why is no one talking about how scary and overwhelming it is even getting started?

I mean, everything will be new; new classmates, new professors, new bills to pay, new expectations and for many students, a new city far away from home. While everyone celebrates the acceptance letter, many students quietly wonder where their next meal will come from.

If that is you, you are not alone. In case no one has told you, there is no shame in using resources and a community that are available to help you succeed.

If you're a college student earning less than $2,610 per month, you may qualify for CalFresh and receive up to $298 per month for groceries. That is an additional $298 dollars for milk, vegetables, and fruit – food that will nourish and fuel your body to do your best while in college!

While you're in your college era, this is the time to chase your dreams, pursue your goals, and build your future without having to choose between paying bills or buying food.

My name is Maria, your CalFresh Assistant, and I am here to come alongside you and support you through the CalFresh application process. Whether you are applying for the first time or have been denied before, I am here to answer questions, help you understand your options, and make the entire process easier. Send me an email or give me a call!

Blessings,
Maria
