Wesley House is proud to welcome the newest addition to our team, Sagal Abullahi! She joins us after a one-year internship through San Diego State University’s School of Social Work. Sagal has been promoted from intern to Student Services Coordinator and is now in charge of all support services and case management for our residents and low-income students taking advantage of Wesley House programs. Sagal is a first-generation American, born and raised in San Diego. Her family first came to the United States in 1994 as refugees and have since made our beautiful city their home. Sagal grew up just minutes from the San Diego State University campus where she earned her bachelor’s in social work and recently received her master’s in social work. Sagal is of Somali heritage and an active volunteer in her community. She grew up in City Heights and is appreciative of different cultures and the unique perspectives they offer. Her experience navigating through higher education with no prior experience inspired her to pursue a profession in social work and created a deep connection the Wesley House mission. During her time as an intern at Wesley House, Sagal made herself invaluable to our work. She designed and ran our new mentorship program, streamlined food pantry operations, and implemented case management best practices. Sagal approaches her work with an openness and authenticity that puts our students at ease. We are thrilled to have her on our full-time staff! Please join us in wishing a warm welcome to Sagal!
